May the warmth, awe and love of a newborn baby fill your hearts this Christmas season. A perfect and blameless newborn that was sent to save this world from it's sin.

Look to Him and not your circumstances. He is greater than them.

Our Mother's Day was a very blessed one.

We got up in the morning and gave Kimberly her homemade flower pots with colored paper flowers in them, from the kids. I worked on those on Saturday with Katy Beth and Kolin.

Soon after breakfast we were off to church. What a blessing to be under sound godly preaching as we get every Sunday from our Pastor Shaun. We did really miss our church while we were on the road in Ohio, raising support and missions awareness.

We sat in on the Young adults class, which I will now take over next week. We have really missed the fellowship and friendships of the participants from this class. This class has grown and we look forward to seeing more of that.

Then was the main church service. Kimberly played piano for the main service as our regular piano lady was gone. She always loves the opportunity to jump in and help out where needed. By the way, Kim, you did a great job.

After church ended we had the blessing of going out to eat with the Wesley Family. What a joy to fellowship and renew our friendships with this precious family. Thank you so much for thinking about us. It was an added blessing to see the Lakers lose and get swept today, during our meal time.

We came home and then rested, played and relaxed. I took the kids out for a golf cart ride around campus, while "Mommy" took a little snooze. Pray for Kim this week as she goes to see a doctor about her painful feet.

We wrapped the evening up by a mother's Day meal of Korean Bulgogi and Sticky Rice, and then a walk around campus with the kiddos.

All in all a blessed day from the Lord. Thank you Lord for our mission field and ministry you have given us.

Tribute to Amy Rhinehart Ramba

September 11, 1980-January 29, 2011

I am posting a tribute to a godly woman who I met as a teenager at a camp I spoke at in 1995. Her name is Amy Rhinehart. She was in the youth department that I worked with, along with her brother Tom. I got to know them both, as well as the family. They welcomed into their home many times after meeting them at camp.

Amy was a Cavs fan, especially a Mark Price fan. He beig a Believer in Christ and playing for the Cavs in the mid 90's. I was and still am a Blazers fan. So we would go back and forth about the Blazers and Cavs.

But more importantly than that was Amy's committment to Christ. I saw it at camp and in her home and at her church. She had a beautiful voice which she used to praise our Lord Jesus Christ. She is now using that voice to sing praises to Him in Heaven today. She was totally healed from her breast cancer by being take home to glory.

Please PRAY along with me for the husband, parents, family and friends who are now left behind, missing this dear young lady.

Amy Marie (Rhinehart) Ramba 30 of Streetsboro passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011, surrounded by her family. She was welcomed into heaven not only by her older brother Jeff, but more importantly, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amy was an inspiration to many people over the past five years as she courageously fought breast cancer. Her faith in God never wavered, and that faith is now reality for her. Amy was born on September 11, 1980 in Ravenna, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Marie Rhinehart. She was a lifelong resident of Streetsboro and married Mike Ramba in 2003. In addition to her husband and parents, she will be missed by her brother Brian and brother Tom, sister-in-law Jenn, and nieces Olivia and Emily, all of Streetsboro. Sister-in-law and brother- in-law Gwen and Reed Graham, niece Kaylee Rhinehart, nephews Josh and Nathan Rhinehart and Austin and Andy Graham, all of Louisville. Father-in-law and mother- in-law Glenn and Linda Ramba of Stow, sister- in-law and brother- in-law Jessie and Ben Schussler and nephew Cory. Loving grandparents Papa Kolbenschlag, Mosu Ramba and Grandma Ramba all of Cleveland. Her three dogs Annie, Tike and Brody, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In 2006 she was preceded in death by her brother Jeff and grandmother Joan "Nina" Kolbenschlag. Calling hours will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday February 2, 2011 at Shorts-Spicer-Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday February 3, 2011 at Fishcreek Nazarene Worship Center in Stow. Burial will follow services in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio next to her brother Jeff. The family requests memorials may be made to Amy's medical checking account to any First Merit Bank (with account ending in 5083). In the summer of 1995, I attended Peniel Holiness Camp in Pennsylvania just like I did every summer prior since I was 3. My brother, Tommy left a short message about this camp on the website dated July 23,2006. Camp has held special memories and meaning for everyone in my family, and many other families as well. This particular summer, I went to the missionary service on the last Thursday of the week. I have always been drawn to missions, ever since I can remember. I loved to hear about these ordinary people going to places I hadn't even heard of, and seeing the slideshows of all of the people they had grown to love and witness to. Kato Boldon was the missionary speaker that day, speaking on the American Indian Field. I had met him the summer prior at camp when he was a counselor. I remember the song by Al Denson playing, "Will you be the one?". I went to an Al Denson concert a few years prior to this day and I remember standing up and singing the words at that concert as the song was played. I gave my life to Jesus at a very young age, and my parents did a wonderful job raising us in a good church. I want to post the lyrics to this song for you all to read.

Be The One

At the end of the missionary service that day at camp, there was an altar call. I know that sometimes, young people especially, can get caught up in the emotion in services like that, where they go up to the altar because their friends go up. Not that their intentions are not good, but life decisions were not always made and carried out as a result. I went up to the altar that day and I told God that I wanted to take His light into a world that needed to hear how much He loves them. As I said, my brothers and I were raised in church. We went every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. The comedian Mark Lowry once said in a show he performed that anytime the doors at church were open, they were there. Our family was the same way. My dad used to lead the worship portion of the church service at Frost Road Chapel, and I used to stand on a folding chair right there next to him behind the pulpit and sing away. We had a very Christ centered home and parents that love each other. We were a middle class family, but I consider us to have been rich in nonmaterial things we had.. the values that were instilled in us. I knew God loved me, and I gave my life to him when I was very young. That being said, I knew I wanted to share what God had done for me, but I did not feel like I had a testimony that people could relate to; That people who were in need could talk to me and feel like I understood where they were coming from. I was never addicted to alcohol or drugs or gambling, etc. to say that God had freed me from these things. I prayed for God to give me a testimony that people would truly see what God has done for me, and how much He loves us and takes care of us. At all the missionary services I had been to, they would always say, "you don't have to go away to Africa to be a missionary. You can be one right there at home, or work, or school. You can be a missionary to your neighbors and friends." For me personally, at the time, I felt like this was a cop out. I felt like in order for me to be really dedicated and committed, I needed to go far away and live with no running water and no electricity, just like those missionaries who would come to our church. Since that day in 1995, I kept waiting for God's call to a specific place in the mission field. I was willing to accept where ever He wanted me to go. When I graduated high school, it was time for me to start making the decisions about what I would do for the rest of my life. I struggled with it because I felt like I wasn't in the place I needed to be, or doing what I was called to do. Still, I continued to pray for a testimony. I had no idea what God had planned!

When I found out that Jeff had cancer that summer in 2004, I was very confused. None of us had ever been sick, no broken bones, nothing. I have honestly never been mad at God through this, He has given me the peace of knowing that sickness does not come from Him, so my anger would be directed in the wrong place if it was at Him. I felt helpless at the time.. what could I do for Jeff that would make any sort of difference? It was very hard to absorb and deal with. It has been amazing to see Jeff's attitude through his battle. He has been calm and at peace with God. He continued to work, to run, to sing at church... all of the things he loved doing. When Tommy wrote that Jeff has been a role model for all of us, he really and truly has been. When I was diagnosed with cancer the following year, I really felt like God was finally extending His call to me 10 years later. I would never wish cancer on anyone, but I am so thankful that I had Jeff there to know how I felt. I would call him whenever I got good results, and we would encourage each other. Kaylee, Josh, and Nathan would pray for me every night (and they would pray for my hair to grow back!). I could not think of a better person to look up to during this time. I tell people all the time that if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't change my situation. God has given me a great testimony. I now have proof that other people can see, that when I was sick, God healed me. While I was going through my treatments, I felt like God was calling me to write a book about my experiences. One night in particular, it was really on my mind. I prayed about it, and God gave me Psalm 102:18 "Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord." I felt like God was confirming that I needed to get my story out there, and give Him the glory for what He has been doing for me. When this website became available again, I thought, what better way to let people know? I am so thankful for the volume of people that check this site, and continue to lift our family up in prayer. I am confident that God can see the bigger picture of our family and that He is in control of everyday.

We see Jeff on a daily basis, so we see how God is moving. I just have to tell you all that Jeff's faith and love for God is unlike anything I have ever seen in my life. A few nights ago, my dad prayed with all of us in Jeff's room before we went home for the night. Afterwards, Jeff asked to add something. He began singing: "Thank you, Oh my father, for giving us your Son, and leaving Your spirit here till your work on earth is done". My dad thanked Him for the love he has, and Jeff stated that he doesn't know it any other way. On our drive home, my husband commented on how much faith Jeff has. It is hard for me to express how much I feel God's hand on Jeff in words that I think people would really understand. Jeff encourages us daily . He smiles more than I ever remember him smiling before. He is an incredible witness to his doctors, nurses, the other residents and families, and to all of us. We never know what God has planned for us. When I was 14, I promised to go through whatever God wanted me to. I know Jeff has done the same at some point in his life, and God has given him a calm and gentle spirit as he fights this. I am not saying that you will have the same situations occur if you agree to follow Him. I am just saying that He will bless all of our situations if we will let Him.

December Newsletter: Hot Off the Press

Our newest newsletter is ready for your enjoyment.

We are expecting big things from God this month. Our account is in the hole quite a large amount of money. We need to right this, or at least make a big push to get this straightened out or other measures will be taken. Measures that we can not afford to let happen.

As you will see when you read this letter, we have quite a bit of traveling to do in the year 2011. We trust the Lord will provide new champions for our ministry. It is vital we get our support raised and head back in April to AZ for preparations for the summer camps.

Hey, our God is able. Please be in prayer as to what you can do to help us reach the Native Americans for Christ.

A Very Boldon Thanksgiving

We had a big dinner at my brother and his wifes house in Granville. My other brother was there from Newark also, along with his wife and daughter and son in law.

It was a good time to catch up on everything and just enjoy God's blessings of this past year.

N7 Game

N7 game will be a first for Oregon State men's basketball, and a first for college hoops

The OregonianSunday's Nike N7 game will have special meaning for OSU sophomore Joe Burton, who is Native American and grew up on the Soboba Reservation in Southern California.

CORVALLIS -- Sam McCracken likes to think that when people hear a drum, they instantly think of Native Americans. But for McCracken, the general manager of Nike's N7, it's a different sound that makes him think of his people.

"If you were to bounce a ball in a gym, that noise of the ball hitting the hardwood," McCracken said, "that's the heartbeat of the Native community."

Ten years ago, McCracken dreamed up the idea of N7, a program that could help Native communities across the country get access to products that would encourage participation in sports. Now, because of McCracken's efforts, the Oregon State men's basketball team on Sunday will become the first university to partner with N7 and host a special game. Oregon State will debut turquoise uniforms when the Beavers tip off at 4:30 p.m. again Texas Southern at Gill Coliseum.

"The is the first time we've ever reached out and partnered with a university to do a game," McCracken said. "It's kind of a bold step for them to a wear a turquoise uniform."

N7 also provides grants to communities so that "Native American youth unleash their potential through sport."

Sunday will have special meaning to OSU forward Joe Burton, who knows a thing or two about finding his potential through sport. Burton, a sophomore, grew up on the Soboba Reservation in Southern California, and is believed to be the first Native American scholarship basketball player in the Pac-10.

"I'm glad to see it," said Burton, who is a member of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians. "I've talked around the Native community and it's just great."

Burton knows the pressure of being a role model for his people. He is the only one in the history of his tribe to get a full athletic scholarship to a major university but says, "I can handle it."

"Back in my community, a lot of people are just like, 'Wow, he's making it, so I'm going to try to make it now.'"

McCracken, who grew up on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana as a member of the Sioux and Assiniboine tribes, said basketball has given him a way to connect with Natives across the country. Though there are many differences from tribe to tribe, one theme rings true: Basketball is king.

"Basketball is the one common denominator throughout every Native community," said McCracken, who has been a youth basketball coach for more than 30 years. "You go to reservation schools in North Dakota to Oklahoma to Oregon and it's like Hoosiers, when you see the bus with the people caravanning behind them. It's that important to those communities."

Oregon State coach Craig Robinson got to see the importance of sport to Native people firsthand when recruiting Burton.

"To be able to do something that helps bring sport and bring access to sport to kids all around the country, it's really a pleasure to be a part of," Robinson said.

Robinson said he and his staff were looking for a special program or cause to promote when they heard about N7. Burton has been outspoken about wanting to help Natives and be a positive role model, and the fact that former OSU baseball player Jacoby Ellsbury (who is Navajo and now plays with the Boston Red Sox) is an ambassador for N7 was an added bonus.

But for all the communities and kids he has helped, McCracken never thought it would grow this much. On Sunday the first 1,500 people through the door will receive a commemorative N7 shirt and a reception in Reser Stadium will welcome representatives from the 10 tribes in Oregon before the game.

"It's going to be a very surreal moment when I see them out there in turquoise jerseys," McCracken said. "I'm maybe going to get a little choked up, but it's going to be an awesome day. To know that it started from one idea ...

"You just don't imagine these things. I think people are realizing the power sport brings to not only (the Native) population, but everyone."

Update On My Right Knee

Following this post I have posted two videos of total knee replacements. The first one is a real surgery and the second one is an animated version. You can choose the version you like due to the level of your squeamishness. ( Is that a real word? )

After we moved here to Ohio a man from the church offered to help us out with a family membership to the local YMCA. So for the past few weeks I have been lifting and trying to get my knee back in shape.

I had my TKR on January 23rd, 2010. About 10 months ago. Up to today, I have not been able to run yet. I still limp pretty noticeably, when running, but it is getting better. I was shooting hoops with my friend Norm at the Y and I was able to run after a loose ball and run a lot lot freer. If that makes sense.

It was depressing, when last August, right before we left Arizona, I raced Katy Beth, my 3 yr old daughter and she beat me. Now of course I am sure she's going to be a great athlete, but at three, hmmm.

Thanks for all your prayers for my knee. Keep those prayers coming. Maybe by spring I'll be able to play softball again.

For the past 4 Summer Camps we had in June and July 2010 we heard Colossians 1:10 recited over and over. The campers recited this verse at most all mealtimes. It goes something like this, " That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him. being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. "

Well, long about the fourth and last camp, Katy Beth who is now about 3 1/2 years old, asked Kimberly if she could say the verse to her. Kimberly thought she might be able to say a few words. But to her amazement, she repeated it word for word. Then she asked if she could tell "Daddy". This was because all the kids for Jr and Sr High had to recite the verse to me for points for their teams. Well she did it. And I just happened to get it all on video.

We are so proud that she is eating the Word and hiding it in her heart. What amazes me even more is that a lot of the adults had trouble saying this verse.

And a child shall lead them.

Knee Update March 2010

Well, here it is today, 7 weeks, today, after the surgery for my total right knee replacement.

The last past 2 weeks, things have started to feel better on it.

I was able to walk for two hours last Saturday and pass out flyer's for our church. Wasn't sure I could do it. God gave me the strength.

Then I played 18 holes of golf on Monday. So I would say it is progressing fine. The swelling has started to go down as well, and there is not as much pain.

I am still walking with a limp, but it is becoming less and less noticeable.

Physical Therapy has been going well. I have only three more sessions left. And then it'll be on my own for the rest of the time. My next doctors appointment is in about 5 weeks or so. I will try to push myself to where I can totally straighten my leg out.

I just have to give the Lord all the praise and glory for the pace in which it has healed.

Who knows, maybe softball in a month? LOL

Thanks to all those who have prayed for me. Now if I can only sleep through the night. :)

Grand Canyon Trip

We had the pleasure to make a 2 day trip to see one of God's most awesome creations on this planet, the Grand Canyon. The main reason we went was we had a good friend, Cherith, from Northern Ireland visiting with us for a couple weeks. It was a good time for her to see the splendor.

Also coming along on the second day of the journey was Tino and Chrissy and her two boys. The Nez's go to our church and are a part of the young adult group. It was good to share this neat journey with them. It gave us a little better chance to get to know the boys, Laban and Freddy.

Before we left we were a little concerned over the weather and wondered if we could even make it up. Northern Arizona has seen its share of snow the past month and a half. As a matter of fact it is supposed to be snowing there today. I got chains all prepared for the trip in case we needed them. There was snow on the ground mostly in Flagstaff and north, and colder temps, but that was it.

When we were on the way back from the GC we ran into some snow near Flagstaff. It started snowing and raining. There were a number of cars in accidents on the interstate just south of Flag. As a matter of fact there were about 2 or 3 cars that had flipped over.

We are praying for a major out pouring of monthly support by the end of March. That is the date the WGM is giving us to try to be out of the hole and with a positive surplus in our ministry account.

Many are counting on us to be here thru the 4 summer camps. Our church is counting on us to be here to continue all we do.

We are asking each of you if you could pray that way with us. Pray for God to raise up new monthly supporters to the tune of about $ 1,500 a month. God is able. I have no doubt about that.

Many of you are giving. and we are so excited about your vision in the ministry. You have ownership in what we are doing here for the sake of eternity. Together we can reach others for Christ and stay on the field throughout our entire term.

We look forward to seeing you all when we are on Homeland Ministry Assignment.

Knee Update: February 2010

Well it has been about 3 weeks and two days since I had a total knee replacement of my right knee.

Going in, the doctor was pretty hesitant to do this surgery. Age being one of the main factors to his hesitancy. The morning after the surgery, he came in the hospital room and said he was glad that I had it done. He said that my knee was pretty thrashed and worn out. He went on to tell me the surgery went really well.

I eventually got out one day earlier than they like to let you out after this kind of surgery. And I was glad to be out early too.

I then had a couple weeks of in home physical therapy to do. My therapist, Holly, did a thorough job and really pushed me hard. I am glad to have worked hard.

Now I am going to outpatient therapy just down the road. My Physical therapist, Laura Yee is taking things slowly with me. The first session was mainly a meet and greet type outing with a little therapy done. I go back tomorrow morning at 8 am. And then do it for the next three weeks for three times a week. Hopefully by then I will be done and on my own for exercising.

The hardest part of the whole thing is the impact this is having on Kim and the kids. Kim is just so tired from having to take on the main part of duties around the house. We are thankful to those who brought meals in for us the first week. Getting up early with Kolin has been the main thing that tires her out. Hopefully in the next week or so I will be able to take on some more of that.

The knee has caused me to lose quite a bit of sleep. It is just on the edge of feeling better through the night. But it still aches quite a bit all the time.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers for us as we deal with all of this. Unfortunately, I still have my lower back to deal with. But I will look at that in May or so. Not excited about a possible surgery there, but we will have to pray about that when the time comes.

It'll be great to use my Bionic knee for softball and basketball. We will most likely start our new softball season in April. I will most likely just coach this season. Maybe some pitching, but we'll see.

Knee Replacement Surgery

I went into the hospital on Jan. 26th for a total right knee replacement surgery.

I had to be at Arrowhead Hospital at 530 am for a 730 am surgery time. I arrived at 515 am and eventually had my surgery at 800 am.

I asked the nurse how long the surgery would take and how long I'd be out before waking up. two hours for the surgery and another for sleeping. The surgery took about 1 hr and 45 minutes and I woke up 10 minutes after it was over.

I was then taken into my room. I did not eat anything that day, as I was kinda nauseous.

They got me up the next morning to walk down the hallway with a walker. I had a spinal for the surgery, and it caused me to have the itchys the next day. I got some Benedryl to take care of that. The spinal finally wore off in a day, so I took some Percoset for the pain.

The Doc came in and I asked him if I could go home a day early. He said yes, and I was out of there on Thursday at 200 pm.

Thanks to Kim, Pastor Shaun, Beth, Leroy and Derrell for coming to visit me. it meant more than you can know.

Katy Beth's Birthday Party 2010

We had about 32 people at Katy Beth's 3rd Birthday Party today at 1 PM on January 23rd.

Her actual birthday is Jan. 29th, but due to my (Kato) knee replacement surgery on the 26th, we decided it was best for her party to be before the surgery.

We want to thank George, a local neighbor for bringing his horse over for the kids to ride. It was one of the highlights of day.

We appreciate all the ones who came and participated in her special day.

The weather also cooperated. It was fore casted to rain today, but it was partly sunny. A little cold, at 50 degrees. But hey, we aren't back east.

Next birthday is Daddy's' on the 15th of February. At this point, nothing special is planned. A quiet day is expected rehabbing the right knee.

Urgent Prayer Needed

Dear Co-workers in Christ,

We have a need that we're asking the whole field to make a serious matter of
prayer. We know many of you have prayed for a long time already that we
could get the rest of the dairyland sold. One obstacle to this has been
getting the land rezoned by the City of Peoria, but we are very pleased to
announce that this was approved last night, Tuesday, November 3rd. For this
we are truly thankful.

What we did not foresee was that, on the very day the zoning was approved,
our buyers would decide to walk out of the deal. So we now have the piece
of land with the proper zoning, but no buyers. This was crucial for going
forward with the dorm construction during a time when the prices are still
low. Very much of a delay will mean a huge increase in price for this
building to be completed. Timing is so crucial. We have just learned it
will be thirty days before we have to lock in the contractor or incur a
substantial increase in the cost of the project.

During very important times, God's people have often covenanted together to
fast and pray. This is something we're asking from all of you. Would you
sacrifice one meal or one day a week for the next 30 days for the sale of
the land? This would allow us to move at the current prices. We truly still
believe God's hand is at work, but we all need to be in tune and praying
together to see the answers come. Will you make a pledge to be a part of
this?

October 31st was exciting. (At least for the state of Oregon)

The state of Oregon got two treats on Halloween. Both L A schools traveled to the Willamette Valley. Both Oregon St. and Univ. of Oregon came away with victories over UCLA and then # 5 USC. The Beavers beat #1 USC last year in Corvallis, Oregon.

I think that makes it four straight games in Oregon that USC has lost.

Maybe it'll come down to this year and the Civil War when the Beavers have a chance to knock off Oregon from a National Title game chance or the Rose Bowl. Last year Oregon knocked off the Beavers from going to the Rose Bowl. Payback would be so sweet. But it'd also be nice to have Oregon go to the National Title game. To be able to represent the state of Oregon and the Pac-10 would be awesome. But there's more football to be played between now and then.

On this day, we also got a chance to see one of my former student athletes from Southwest Indian School who I coached and taught. He was down in the valley of the sun with his family. His daughter was running in a state finals for cross country.

Saturday night was Halloween 2009. We at First Indian Baptist church had an event called Hallelujah Night. It was for the trick or treaters in the area. They came in and received info on the church and a lot of spiritual items.

We did have little bags of candy for them and popcorn, cookies and drinks.

Kolin dressed up as an Elephant and Katy Beth dressed up as a Ladybug, just like last year. We, of course don't endorse the evil of Oct. 31st, but it's nice for the kiddos to dress up while they are young and get some candy.

Classes include the little kids, children, youth, young adults, men, women and seniors.

Pictured here is Andrew, who we are going to see play. This is a picture from a team he played with last season. Now he is a freshman playing at North Canyon High School in Phoenix, AZ.

At First Indian Baptist Church we are trying to think outside of the box a little. Be a little unconventional so to speak.

And that is starting with the Youth Department. I asked the Pastor if we could do an outreach Wednesday Night Service that would not be held at the church. Now I know many youth ministries do this kind of thing on a regular basis. We are going to one of the youth's football games. Yes he plays on Wednesday nights. Now, don't get me started on the whole playing school sports on church nights.

It is his last game of the season. He is going to invite a couple of his friends on the team to the event. We are asking the rest of the youth to invite a least one friend to this event.

After the game we are going out to pizza. Kids and free pizza. Should be a hit. I will then give a short devotional also. Please pray that God gives me the words to speak to the kids. I hope His ( God ) words will speak to where they live. Hit 'em at home, so to speak. Most of our youth's friends do not attend anywhere regularly, if at all.

If this turns out to be a success, then we will be able to do more things like this to reach out to the youth in our community.

Our church tends to be a little on the traditional, old style Baptist, side. I think they are seeing we need to be fresh in our approach and a little out of the box. We will never change His message, though. The packaging will just be decorated differently.

Thank you for your prayers. Can I count on you to pray for the next three days? I am excited to see what God is going to do.

SIS Alumni Day 2009

Today we had Southwest Indian School Alumni Day.

Even though the school had closed in 1998, we have many alumni all over the country and around the world who we keep in touch with.

Our numbers today were very low, but the few who did come out had a good time. It was a huge blessing to see them.

The SIS Museum was one main topic that was brought up during the day. The Old Paths Chapel, downstairs is going to be made into four separate rooms that will be made up of different areas of the school.

We had 7 alumni who showed up. Two had to leave early and didn't get into the group photo.

Thanks to all who came down and attended the special day. We are sorry that there was so short of notice beforehand. We will be having some work days to get the old chapel in order.

I would ask you to all pray for Stanley the former SIS student I have been searching for and finally found.

I have filled out the paperwork and am all set to head over to California to see him. Then he informs me he got an incident report and had to go before the discipline committee. He got his visiting taken away from him, as well as e-mail and his job. He said he hasn't had anyone come to see him since 2004.

Stanley feels he doesn't have or need anyone to look out for him. I told him that I will look out for him and I care for him, and that God loves him.

Please pray that he will get his visiting back and I can go over and see him. And that he will want to have me come and see him. I feel he needs some hope in his life. He needs someone to care about him and love him. Basically, his family doesn't care about him at all.

This past Saturday we YAMs, at First Indian Baptist Church went bowling. Oh, by the way, a YAM is our Young Adult Ministry.

We ended up getting free bowling coupons for one free game. We actually only had one couple show up to go bowling. The newly weds, Tino and Chrissy. Turns out it was the first time either of them had ever bowled. Strange how people in their late 20's early 30's have never ever bowled before.

So there were five of us bowling. Yes, Katy Beth bowled for the second time in her life. She did well, bowling a 82. Kim had a game and career high of 149.

We were a little disappointed that not more YAMs showed up, but were glad we got some one on one time with the newlyweds.

We had a party for him at the house. We had about 30 people show up to help us celebrate this special occasion. We want to thank all those who attended or came by and dropped off a gift. It was a very special day.

N.A.R.D. Parade 2009

This morning I got to ride in the Native American Recognition Days Parade with a group of motorcyclists called, Brothers from the Rez.

A couple guys who are part of this group play for our church softball team and go to church with me.

Our church, First Indian Baptist, also passed out church brochures along the parade route. Last year we had a float, but didn't garner enough interest this year.

1825 Days of Marriage

1825 days of wedded bliss. Or in lay mans terms, five years to you and me.

That's how long Kimberly Beth Cawlfield, now Boldon, have been married. I know it's not really very long in the grand scheme of things, but it is what it is.

God had brought me to McAllen, Texas to work on the mission field and to find Kimberly to be my helpmate. Yeup, October 9, 2004 at First Baptist church of McAllen, was where it all happened.

Then on January 29, 2007, God brought Katy Beth into our family.

And this past year, on October 10, 2008, we were blessed with Kolin. Now our family is complete. And we muss ant forget Parker, the barker, our mini schnauzer.

God has blessed us with two healthy and beautiful kids, a ministry that we love the people we work with, and finding each other to love. What more can we ask for?

God is good. No, God is great.

Trail Blazers Make It Back-To-Back Wins Over Kings

Second-year center Greg Oden gave a good demonstration Wednesday night of what he's capable of doing when he's healthy. Getting the start, Oden scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and was an imposing defensive presence as the Trail Blazers defeated the Kings 89-86 in Sacramento.

It was the second game of a back-to-back, home-and-home series with the Kings. The Trail Blazers also won the front end 98-86 Tuesday night at the Rose Garden.

Wednesday, Brandon Roy scored 13 points and dished out five assists, and Juwan Howard added 14 points off the bench. Jerryd Bayless tallied 11 points and newly acquired veteran Andre Miller added 10 as 11 players saw preseason action.

Portland 98, Sacramento 86: Andre Miller calmly dominates in Blazers exhibition opener

It took Andre Miller all of one game to provide Trail Blazers fans seven million reasons why the team signed him to a free agent contract this summer.

In a game the Blazers played in fits and starts, Miller was the calming and dominant force, leading his new team to a 98-86 win over Sacramento on Tuesday night at the Rose Garden in the exhibition opener for both teams.

Miller made 5 of 6 shots from the field and finished with 16 points and four assists. But more importantly, he was the driving force in the game's most crucial stretches, particularly during a 21-11 run in the first half. Miller was the catalyst in the run, displaying solid ballhandling in traffic and his veteran savvy, such as faking as if he would pull up his dribble only to accelerate and blow past a defender for a layup.

"You just saw him direct," coach Nate McMillan said. "I thought he did a good job quarterbacking and directing and basically running our counter sets. Whenever the defense made mistakes, he played basketball and made reads."

Miller barked out plays and directed teammates with hand motions and head nods, establishing order to what was otherwise a rusty and sloppy Blazers performance. When Miller left in the second quarter, the team scored five points in the half's final 5:49.

It was the type of steady and productive play that prompted the Blazers to sign the 10-year veteran to a two-year contract that will pay him $7 million per season.

Miller wasn't the only new-look Blazers player.

Center Greg Oden, entering his second season on the court, looked much improved, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Oden, who is 14 pounds lighter than he was last season, showed quicker feet and improvement in his offensive game. Late in the first quarter, he quickly spun to his right, leaving Kings center Spencer Hawes guarding air. Oden was fouled at the rim, and he made one of two free throws. In the second quarter, he hit a jump hook from the right side of the key, a shot that he rarely, if ever, made last season.

Oden also hit a mid-range jump shot and looked spry while swiping a Jason Thompson shot out of the air.

"He looked pretty good," McMillan said. "I thought he got deep post position and did some good things."

As for the rest of the team ... well, there's clearly work to do, and the Blazers have seven more exhibition games over the next three weeks to work out the kinks before the season opener Oct. 27 at home against Houston.

"That's a great film for us to teach from," McMillan said. "We needed that game to look at ourselves and to see where we were at. We have a lot of work ahead of us."

At the top of McMillan's list of improvements will be rebounding. The smaller Kings outrebounded the Blazers 44-34.

Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, still engaged in a contract negotiations, finished with a game-high 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting, most of them from the perimeter.

The Blazers started with the same lineup they used during last season's 54-win season: Steve Blake at point guard, Brandon Roy at shooting guard, Nicolas Batum at small forward, Aldridge at power forward and Joel Przybilla at center.

The Blazers opened the game with a perfectly executed pick-and-roll, with Przybilla converting a layup after receiving a bounce pass from Blake. But there were some kinks as well. Roy airballed his first shot -- a wide-open three pointer -- and then was unable to convert a lob pass from Blake.

Roy was off all night, finishing with six points on 3 of 11 shooting from the field.

The most effective unit of the night was the one directed by Miller, who played with Rudy Fernandez, Martell Webster, Travis Outlaw and Oden.

When Miller wasn't directing traffic, he was deferring to Fernandez, who is being auditioned as a play-making guard this preseason. Fernandez looked the part, amassing three assists in the first 12 minutes, including a repeated effort to get Oden the ball in the post, and a zip pass to Miller for a baseline jumper.

McMillan opened the second half with a different starting lineup, going with Miller, Roy, Webster, Aldridge and Oden. They played the first 7:46 of the third quarter, outscoring Sacramento 18-13.

Unlike the preseason opener last year, when the Blazers were sharp and electric during a 110-81 pasting of the Kings, the Blazers struggling to put away the rebuilding Kings. It was 57-55 midway through the third quarter, but a late run, capped by a Blake three-pointer put the Blazers up 72-62.

Two things to note about the weekend camp we had this past weekend. #1) Last year we averaged about 30 some for camps. This weekend we had 59 kids. And #2), This summer most of our campers were return campers. I'd say about 85% or so. This weekend, we probably had 40% new campers who had never been on our campus before.

Which brings me to a point I'd love you to pray about. We need prayers for bigger dorm facilities and a new gym. All the plans have been drawn up. We just need the money for them. And of course the grace of the city of Peoria. Two things that have been holding us up. We had some land sold in the past, but the buyers ended up backing out of it all. So we are not asking for you to send in funds, but for you to pray for two different pieces of property to sell, so we will have the money to get going on our new dorm and gym.

Anywho, we think our camps can attract more kids, but we just don't have the space for them in our old dorm. We also need new missionaries. May God be calling you to work with Native Americans? Had He called you to missions along time ago, and you never responded then? Or are you just tired of living for yourself, and need to stretch yourself for Him?

Now, about the weekend camp. Our theme was "God's Treasure."

The kids cam in on Friday night between 5 & 7 pm. Although we had one group get here about 730 pm. They came from about 3 hours away.

At 7 pm we had a hot dog supper for them. At 730 pm we moved them into the dorms. I got to be a counselor in the dorms with 4 younger boys. The first time I got to do that. Usually they have enough male counselors and didn't need me.

Worship music and devotions were next. We actually had to move into our library, cuz we had a few raindrops to start out with. In Arizona? (That's what I say.) Our speaker that night was April S. a short term missionary here for a year with her husband Tony. They have one child and one on the way. She talked about God's creation and how special we are to be made by God.

Then at 9 pm it was back to the dorm to get ready for bed. Lights were out by 945 pm.

We got up at 7 am on Saturday morning. Had dorm room devotions at 730 and raised the flag at 815 am. Breakfast was after that and then it was off to morning worship. The kids were then divided off to older and younger groups.

At 945 am they had Bible Lessons in their newly formed age groups. Then came art class which I taught. Also the other group of kids did recreation during art class.

After that we had lunch and then took them to a local park to hang out and play. They left campus at 4 pm.

We thank all those kids who came to camp. Please pray for them as they are back home, most of them living on the REZ. God is so fiathful.

2009 Fall SIMC Kids Weekend Camp

Today at 4 pm we will be having our first of four weekend camps going on. These are to keep the kids excited for the summer camps. Also it helps with some spiritual tones that some of these kids don't get back home.

The camp will run from 4 pm till 4 pm tomorrow. Pretty short amount of time, but lots of stuff for them to do.

My responsibilities will include, staying in the dorm with the boys, teaching an arts & crafts class twice and generally helping out.

We ask that you could please pray for these kids as they prepare to arrive for camp today. I know that there will be a group from Sommerton, near Yuma, that will be bringing about 15 kids or so.

Pray for all those who will be traveling to get here for camp. Pray for the spiritual tone of the camp. Our theme is "God's Treasure." Pray for those who will be speaking to the kids during Friday evening worship time and the two speakers doing devotions during tomorrows devotional time.

Also, my back has been hurting a little more today. Wouldn't you just know the enemy wants to do all he can to spoil this weekend. He has no place here at camp.

The Search is Over. PTL

A few years ago I wrote an article for our mission's magazine, the Call To Prayer. It was entitled, "In Search of Sammy."

The article was about a former student of mine, named "Sammy" ( not his real name ). It was about the family and background that Sammy came from. His Dad was an alcoholic and would not be seen by the family for days. Sammy and his two sisters came to our boarding school in 1996-97.

Sammy would hang around me, and even got the nickname of Coach Jr. Since he even styled his hair like mine. One day, he asked me if he could call me " Dad ". I told him to think of me more as an older brother, since I didn't feel like a Dad type at all.

Well, I have been searching the past 9 years or so for Sammy. And I praise the Lord I have found him. He is in a prison in California. I wrote to him a couple weeks ago and he wrote right back. I plan to go and visit him. Of course, I know, this is not the same shy kid I knew back in 1997. Being in and out of the correctional system, I am sure has jaded him. He is due for release in December some time, if he doesn't have to stay in longer.

Please pray for him and all the details in order for me to go and visit him. Pray that he will be open to hearing the Gospel of Christ. But for now, I am just glad that Sammy will once again be a part of my life.

Fall SIMC Staff Fellowship Meal 2009

Each month or so we like to come together as a team to fellowship around the supper table. We celebrate monthly birthdays and anniversaries as well as catching up on things.

We had new field missionaries, the Kelleys with us this month. They are on Homeland Ministry Assignment now, raising their support to be able to work along side of us. We also had a longtime missionary (retired) with us, Mr. Trenbeath. He hadn't been at a meal for a long time.

Also, the Butlers have a girl (Janice) staying with them who is the daughter of a former SIS student. She is in culinary school in the valley and baked a couple super cakes for us. Yummy.

Knee Shot Part II

Well, I had another shot in the knee today at 145 pm. They said I have to give it 2 months to have it work fully. So no surgery in October or November. :(

On the bright side, I have very little pain in it at all today. I think I'll even be able to play softball this weekend. We'll see how it goes in a couple days. It felt this good last week right after the shot. Then it got steadily worse as the week went on.

To Sedate or not to Sedate?

Got back from the hospital an hour ago. They did a shot of cortisone in each facet in my lower back. I had the choice to be sedated or not. I chose not. I will go back in two weeks and have another one done. Then it'll be burning the nerve endings, two weeks after that. No pain in my back right now.

Thanks for your prayers. No driving the rest of the day and no heavy lifting.

SYATP 2009

SYATP 2009 is not a brand new sports car. It's " See You At The Pole". Where thousands of youth hang out at the flag pole of their schools to pray for the country.

We, here at Southwest Indian Ministries Center, also had a See You At The Pole this morning. Wednesday mornings are our normal weekly time for devotions and prayer time. Nancy B., who was in charge of devotions this morning, had us meet at our flag pole.

It's good to pray for our country. We surely need it. Our country needs to turn from it's wicked ways and turn back to the Lord.

Shots in the back

Tomorrow morning I will head off to the doctors to have cortisone shots in my lower back.

I will head to the outpatient center of Banner Thunderbird Hospital, just down the road, at 10 am. It'll be after we have staff morning devotions and prayer meeting.

I will be sedated and the procedure will take about 20 minutes. I will be free to go about 45 minutes later.

These shots are into the facets in my lower back. My back has been getting slowly worse over the last few weeks. Some degree of sciatica has set in my left leg. Hopefully this will solve that problem.

Then on Thursday at 145 PM I head to have another shot of lubricant into my right knee. The first shot my it feel better for the next day. but it has slowly gotten worse. I hope to ask the doctor if I can just get the knee replaced in November. I didn't think it would give me this much trouble.

I have to remind myself, " In His time and His strength."
