Update: April 2009

Weekend Youth Camp:

Last weekend we had our third of three, two day weekend Youth Camp. The past two camps we had about 35 kids in for the weekend.
Praise the Lord, we had 66 kids this past weekend. Almost too many for what we have dorm space for. Also we needed more workers to help out.
I got to do the art activities for the kids. We did Easter Crosses. During the weekend we took the kids swimming at the local YMCA. They really enjoyed that time.

Summer Camp News:

We are in the process of getting ready for our four summer camps. We are increasing this year by one camp. We are adding a Senior High Camp.
The Sr. Hi Camp will be about service. We will be taking the kids to a service project one of the days of camp.
Also, the Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to have Chad Johnson, Chaplain for the Arizona Cardinals, come and speak to the kids each evening. He might even bring one or two of the NFC Champion Cardinals along with him.
We are so thankful for all of the work teams that will be coming out to help us this summer. We truly couldn't do it without you.
If you feel like you'd like to help out with the camp costs, please contact me.

Kids:

Katy Beth is just amazing us each day. At two years old, she is just advanced like a three year old. She is talking in complete sentences, and carries on conversations like an older child.
She got to sing " Jesus Loves Me " at church a couple of Sunday nights ago. She loves to sing and to color and draw. She would much rather be outside than inside watching tv. Although her favorite show is Calliou, which can be seen on Sprout and PBS.

Kolin is still having a hard time sleeping. It'll be so much of a relief when he will start to sleep through the night. It is a good night if he can sleep four hours in a row. He did just turn 6 months old on Good Friday.
He is starting to try to talk, and has learned to roll over on his stomach.

Church Softball:

We are four games into our co-ed softball season at Fist Indian Baptist Church. Our first three were all one run affairs. With us losing two of three. We won our last game 22-4. So we are 2-2 now.
This is probably our best team we've had so far. We are having fun with everyone and many of the new players are new to the church.

Youth Group @ FIBC:

Our high school kids are going on a missions trip this summer to Dauphin Island, Alabama. We are going to be doing a VBS and various work service projects.
This will be a new experience for most of the kids. We are busy raising money, prayer support and just getting ready for the trip.
Please keep one of the girls in your prayers, as her mother has told her she can not go. Pray the Lord will soften her heart.
I will be one of the three leaders going on this trip. I am excited that we are trying to broaden the world scope of missions with the kids.
If the Lord is leading you to help out with the trip please contact me.

Kato and Kim:

Kim is trying to get a women's Bible Study, once a month at our church. Pray for this adventure. She would also like to get a Native Children's Choir together. She continues to sing in the choir at church and be in charge of the nursery. All that plus taking care of the kids. And that's not east with little sleep.

Kato is helping with the youth group at church, as well as running the sound booth and recreation programs. He is helping Lori B. to get the stuff ready for summer camps. Lori is the camp director and Kato assists her in getting things in order and created. He also helps around campus with maintenance things when needed.

Visitors & Friends:

We were blessed to have some friends & supporters from Washington here for a visit. The Grants came down for a vacation and we got to spend some time with them. I went to church youth group with Nancy, back in the day. Nancy and Curtis have two kids who are adopted from Korea, as well as one of their own. It was good seeing how much thee kids have grown since we saw them three years ago in Washington while we were on HMA.
Also, Bill W. a former staff member came in for a visit. He has traveled to some of the reservations to see some former students.
We had the opportunity last Sunday afternoon to have a BBQ with old friends from Oregon. The Thuns all now live in Phoenix. It was good to renew this friendship and see how the kids are doing.
